Update:
I am no longer offering free wedding, and would like to thank all the fanastic bride and grooms for taking up on my service for allowing me to build my south wales wedding photographer which has been an exciting experience and also an amazing learning opportunity. Weddings now start from a mere £450 which cover Ceremony up to Speeches with all high resolution images on DVD, and also Italian made storybook albums as an option.

Hi all,
I currently do portraits, mainly of children, but I am looking to broaden my services and offer wedding photography too. I need to build up my wedding photography portfolio, and what better way than to offer my services for free!
I've only been to friends weddings as guests, so no real opportunity to take decent photo's, as I'm spending more time catching up with old friends and drinking... drinking and photography don't mix!
Anyway, I'm based in Llanelli, and will be willing to travel as far as Cardiff to take photo's of your special day. I plan to start early to take photo's of the Bride getting ready, all the way up to the first dance.
My wife keeps pushing me to do this, and I've been reluctant, as I didn't have the right equipment, and would not be happy with the photos. Now that I have new kit, I am more than ready to take photo's of your wedding day.

My style would be photojournal, I'll be telling a story through my photographs, capturing your natural poses and emotions throughout the whole day.

I'm not doing free ones just to have a portfolio, but also to gain experience, so I won't be doing just ONE, I'm up for doing loads of them, have a large variety for my portfolio, and also lots of experience.

- no protection under sec 85 of the copyright designs and patents act.
- no commitment that they will do as they agreed (effectively you don't have a contract with them)
I'm not casting any doubt about the OP's intentions and he/she is nowhere near me so this is not competitive sour grapes
I do agree with you weddingshooter, but a contract can always be drawn up, whether paid or not.
I've read stories where a photographer would take deposits from numerous couples, and double book intentionally, only to cherry pick a wedding!! Then inform the unfortunate couples that they're ill and unable to photograph their wedding... so paying or not, would make no difference in my eyes.
I guess going old school and obtaining references is the best bet
Anyway, don't worry, I'm not offended, your advice will be taken onboard by myself, and hopefully by many brides on here too.

I would photograph a wedding for travel expenses. I have shot 10 weddings to date but still need more images for my portfolio and practice. If you are getting married between December 2013 and February 2014, I would love to hear from you!
